The Bowtie methodology is an industry-agnostic risk identification approach. However, the methodology is often misunderstood when, in fact, it is very straightforward. It is a visual barrier-focused approach that helps people, particularly those at the beginning of their careers in risk management, understand the concepts more quickly. Because of its visual nature, it makes identifying and validating risk easier.

NHS England endorses the Bowtie approach for hazard identification, analysis, and risk management in digital clinical safety. Consequently, we will explore Bowtie’s eight elements and highlight how the methodology supports compliance with the DCB0129/0160 Clinical Safety Standards for IT when used alongside industry software. While this discussion will centre on clinical safety, the principles apply to anyone in healthcare or related fields. This session will apply to all professionals in healthcare or related industries, as the principles are broadly applicable.

While this will use digital clinical safety as an example, this session will apply to anyone working in healthcare or related industries as the principles apply.
