John Sherban, P.Eng., FS Eng (TÜV Rheinland)

John Sherban has over 35 years of progressive experience (>25 years international) in a wide range of activities related to operational risk management systems. He has directed many studies, projects, investigations, and learning events from feasibility to the start-up phases. He has worked extensively in the Engineering, Managerial, and Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE), and Quality functional areas within the hydrocarbon, electrical utility, chemical, and mining industries. Working with Shell International in the Middle East, Europe, and West Africa, John held a number of increasingly senior technical and managerial positions. John is a registered Professional Engineer, Functional Safety Engineer, and currently President of Systemic Risk Management Inc. He has extensively worked and travelled internationally and appreciates the importance of respect for cultural differences, equity within diversity, and thoroughness in all his work endeavors.

The main focus of John’s work is integrating the clear understanding of human performance factors (e.g. behaviors, errors, and violations) into critical aspects of an organization’s business processes. John is one of few qualified implementers and trainers in the Western Hemisphere of the “Hearts and Minds” tools which are endorsed by the UK-based Energy Institute. John implements proactive risk assessments according to the BowTieXP body of knowledge, and reactive business disruption (incident) analyses using the world-class Tripod Beta methodology. John is the highest technically accredited, most experienced Tripod Beta Practitioner, Trainer, and Assessor in the Western Hemisphere, and works closely with the Dutch-based Stichting Tripod Foundation, CGE Risk Management, and other Tripod Trainers and Assessors around the world.

Partner certification

Our long-term partner has committed to participate in the Bowtie Suite partner certification process (launched 2020) and has already been successfully awarded the third badge in the BowTieXP series, and the second badge in the IncidentXP series.
